AVANTIS OVA KING

AVANTIS OVA KING

After competing for 17 years with both victories and losses, I decided to offer a platform where future competitors were able to PUSH the ENVELOPE because back in my era of competing, the standards of pageantry were EXTREMELY SIMPLISTIC. I competed, pushing the envelope, and was told from time to time I was a bit over the top.

THE NAME: (Miss Models Inc). This name is derived from a television show that aired for a short period, called Models Inc. I was personally very fond of the show and decided to call my vision "Miss Models Inc".

THE SIGNATURE NAMES: I wanted from the start for each one of the young ladies to have their identity because no two people are ever alike.

The first Miss Models Inc. competition took place in June 1999 at Club Nutty Buddies in Norfolk, Virginia. We had six contestants and five qualified judges, and I hosted the competition for the first three years (1999-2003). The competition was co-owned by Michael Waddell, also known as Daejah Snow (RIP). Miss Snow loved my vision and never wanted to be in the forefront, but certainly had an interest in being a partner.

Avantis Ova King was my daughter and only daughter to date, as many are aware, and has been for the last 31 years, and has requested to compete in the competition. Now, I initially told her twice that I would not allow her to compete simply because she was my daughter, and if she were to win the competition, I feared that people would assume it was rigged.

Now, after careful consideration and her consistent approach to competing, an executive decision was made to allow her to compete. I just told her that if you're going to compete, you're going to have to compete to win, because there would be no favors. She understood and showed herself approved that evening and became the first Miss Models Inc., hence her signature name (THE MMI BEGINNING).
